Client: Balfour Beatty (Network Rail) Date: 2010 to 2012 Value: £400k Scheme Background In April 2008, Network Rail awarded Balfour Beatty the contract to deliver Blackfriars Station and Bridge Reconstruction Scheme, a vital part of the £5.5 billion government funded Thameslink investment managed by Network Rail. The project is being headed by Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Major Projects Division, with Mone Bros supplying the stone as part of the Blackfriars Bridge reconstruction. The Works In keeping with the existing grit stone used on the original Blackfriars Bridge, Mone Bros provided over 4,000 tonnes of Bramley Fall Stone. As a landmark bridge in the London area, all stone had to be faultless to ensure the aesthetics were maintained. Mone Bros supplied the blockstone in 10-15 tonne blocks, which was then cut to size at Real Stone in Nottingham. The Bramley Fall Stone was then forwarded to Balfour Beatty on location. |
